Loneliness

Loneliness is a poem about unrequited love by Canadian poet and author, Ruth Desjardins

My loneliness is agony

How can you understand?

I’ve chosen this. It’s not your fault.

But won’t you take my hand?

I’ve reached a very lonely place

I’m up here all alone

Wishing you would come to me

Don’t let me stay alone…

And still you do not understand

And I dare not let go –

So lonely on this mountaintop

And oh, I miss you so!

But here I wait for you, my love,

Afraid you’ll never come,

That here I’ll live my whole life through

Alone – here in the sun.
