I escape to dream
Someone is speaking
But I didn’t hear;
And love, you know what that means:
The music was playing
You came to my mind
And I escape to dream.
I’m suddenly happy
Away from it all;
My thoughts carry me to you
And just for a moment –
For as long as I can,
I’ve escaped to dream of you.
Demands that I must meet,
My time taken up
With problems and childish scenes,
Attention to give
And work to be done…
And I escape to dream.
Behind a closed door.
Alone in my bed,
With only my dreams of you,
There I am sheltered
As thoughts fill my head;
I’ve escaped to dream of you.
A problem to meet;
A crisis again;
Or a baby’s smile that beams,
With love and a kiss
Each problem is faced –
And I escape to dream.
Alone in the night,
With no one around,
My thoughts have returned to you;
I think of your love
And wish you were here –
I’ve escaped to dream of you.
Another day dawns
And beckons to me
I smile to myself, for it seems
That just for a moment
I can keep my eyes closed
And I escape to dream.
There in my mind
I’m with you again,
There’s no one but me and you;
Alone with my love
I think of your touch,
I’ve escaped to dream of you.
Throughout the long day
In the midst of a chore
Your face will come between;
I forget what I’m doing
Again and again
And I escape to dream.
Whatever I’m doing
It seems you are there
Again, I’m dreaming of you;
I can’t seem to help it,
So why should I try?
I’ve escaped to dream of you.
